  • Wires for thermocouples (ANSI MC 96.1)
    • Wires for Thermocouples IEC 60584-1, ASTM E 230 etc
    • Fils pour Couples thermoélectriques (NFC 42-322)

  • The basic EMF values for the different thermocouples are now internationally identical; except types U and L, which are only standardized en DIN 43710/1985. On the other hand the standards show different limits of error.

  • Declaration acc. to  IEC 60 584-1:

    • Thermocouple: type identification letter

    • Single leg: type identification letter + polarity marking ("P" or "N")

Fils pour câbles d'extension (ANSI MC 96.1)

Wires for extension leads/cables (ANSI MC 96.1)
Wires for extension cables IEC 60584-3/ASTM E230 etc
Fils pour Câbles d'extension (NFC 42-324)

These wires are used for the electrical connection between the open end of a thermocouple and the reference junction in those installations where the conductors of the thermocouple are not directly connected to the reference junction. Wires for extension leads are manufactured from conductors having the same nominal composition as those of the corresponding thermocouple. Extension cables have only to fulfill the basic EMF range of the thermocouple up to a fixed temperature (ingeneral 200°C).

Declaration acc. to (DIN) IEC 584:
Extension cable: identification letter of the thermocouple in question
+ letter "X"
Single wire for extension cable: identification letter of the thermocouple in question
+ polarity marking ("P" or "N")
+ letter "X"
+ classification of tolerance (1,2)

Fils de compensation(ANSI MC 96.1)

  • Wires for compensating leads/cables (ANSI MC 96.1)
    • Wires for compensating cables IEC 60584-3
    • Fils pour Câbles de compensation (NFC 42-324)
  • These wires are used for the electrical connection between the open end of a thermocouple and the reference junction in those installations where the conductors of the thermocouple are not directly connected to the reference junction. ANSI as well as IEC 60584 interpret the above as pairs of wire showing the same temperature-EMF-characteristic as the thermocouple in question. The conduictors (wires), however, have a nominal composition different from that of the corresponding thermocouple. French standard NFC 42-324 interprets "Câbles de Compensation" as a pair of wires differing from the thermocouple by nature (chemical composition) or quality, that means either the chemical composition or the inferior thermoelectrical quality (tolerance) designates the quality "Câbles de Compensation".

    Declaration acc. to  IEC 60584:

  • Compensating cable: identification letter of the thermocouple in question + letter "C" (Compensation) + letter "A" or "B" (index of temperature range)

  •  Single wire for compensating cable: identification letter of the thermocouple in question + polarity marking ("P" or "N") + letter "C" (Compensation) + letter "A" or "B" (index of temperature range)
